WBAN - Real-time Operating System and Power Efficient Protocol Stack, PI: A/P Chua Kee Chaing, NUS

The aim of our group is to design and develop a body area network (BAN) platform for healthcare and other related applications.  The BAN we envision comprises a number of intelligent low-power devices that include biomedical sensors and storage devices that are worn on a human body to sense, monitor and store vital biomedical signals and data in support of medical and/or sports applications.  The BAN interconnects to the external environment through a body access point which can either be a personal digital assistant (PDA) device or a mobile phone equipped with either wireless local area network (e.g., WiFi) or cellular phone (GPRS/3G) technologies.  This project is concerned with the networking aspects of the BAN platform.

The main objectives of this project are:

●  Develop a real-time operating system (RTOS) for the BAN platform.

●  Design an energy efficient networking protocol stack for use in the wireless BAN.

●  Architectural design for the BAN

●  MAC layer protocols and Cross-layer optimization
